Green Homes Are Ready

The Green Homes development at Norfolk Park in Sheffield is complete and will be officially opened on Saturday 1 November at 12 noon with the last of the development's apple orchard planted to celebrate the event.

Built to the Environment Trust's latest Green Homes specification, the scheme features solar thermal water heating, environmentally friendly materials throughout, a car pool, allotment plots, super insulation and fuel bills projected to be below £200 a year.

The 47 new homes, fifteen 3 bed houses, eighteen 2 bed apartments and fourteen bed apartments, are spacious, have great views over Sheffield and are on the tram route reducing the need to use cars. The show flat has been furnished entirely from auction and 'freecycle' sites as a demonstration of thrift.

Councillor Bob McCann, Sheffield City Council's Cabinet Member for Housing and Sustainable, Safer Communities, said: "These new homes set the benchmark for environmentally friendly design in the city, and any moves to cut energy use and fuel costs are especially welcome at the moment."

The homes are for sale at a discount to the current market price - which makes them "very good value indeed" said Environment Trust Director Jon Aldenton. "Two are already sold, which is a vote of confidence in the current climate."
