The credit crisis and the slump in the housing market will be high on the agenda when delegates gather for the largest housing conference in the east of England.
Economist David Smith of the Sunday Times and David Orr, Chief Executive of the National Housing Federation will debate the prospects for the economy and the role that affordable housing providers can play in bringing about a revival in the housing market. Other speakers include Anthony Mayer, Chair of the new housing regulator, Professor Germaine Greer, Sarah Webb Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Chief Executive and climate change expert Mark Lynas. They will be joined by a range of housing, legal and architectural experts at the CIH annual conference in the eastern region from 11 November in Cambourne.
Chair of CIH Eastern, Simone Russell, said: "Our conference will examine the challenges of climate change, worklessness, an ageing population, migrant worker housing and the financial crisis and their impact on the provision of affordable housing in the region. The theme of "Changing Times" is very appropriate given the dramatic events in the global economy, together with the creation of new funding and regulatory bodies."
