Kier South East has begun construction of a new £18m luxury 4 star hotel and country club for Marriott at Lingfield Park Racecourse. The premier development is due for completion in 2010 and will make Lingfield Park the first racecourse to have an on-site hotel in the UK.
The 116-bedroom hotel will boast views across the racecourse and 18-hole championship golf course, plus conference and banqueting rooms, a restaurant, a stylish lobby lounge and bar. Recreational facilities will include a 460sq m health and leisure club offering a fitness room, indoor swimming pool and spa and treatment rooms.
Sustainability features such as the installation of a biomass boiler to provide carbon neutral energy from wood fuel to support the hotel's main heating and hot water supply will be implemented while other eco-friendly features will include improved drainage on the site and the segregation and recycling of construction waste at source during the build.
The development will also include a new golf clubhouse plus improvements to the course itself. A remoulded course will be created using 22,000cu m of earth from the excavation of the building site, which has greatly reduced the amount of soil sent to landfill.
