Galliford Try has been awarded an £11 million contract to build 'Excellent' eco-rated accommodation for the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) at its training and conference facility in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Warwickshire.

The contract which forms part of a Home Office Framework, will involve Galliford Try undertaking the demolition of an existing building and the construction of a three-floor accommodation block comprising 168 ensuite rooms. The accommodation will be built using modular construction along with Terespa & Teracotta rainscreen cladding.

The completed accommodation is expected to achieve Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM's) 'Excellent' rating through a number of eco features. These include a heating system provided by ground bore holes (open loop), a solar power domestic hot water system and rain water harvesting which will be in place for distribution through the grey water system. The open loop ground bore hole will also contribute to harvesting tanks, reducing the possibility of mains water being used for grey water. The building will also feature passive ventilation.

Work on site is expected to be completed by May 2009.
