Gas pipeline company National Grid has announced that work to improve the gas network in Hereford Road, Shrewsbury will continue until the middle of October.
The scheme to renew the old metal gas main running along Hereford Road started in August and was due to end in the middle of September. During the work, traffic has been restricted to one way only. Unfortunately engineering problems have caused delays in the work and the scheme is now expected to be completed on October 17.
National Grid Project Manager Steve Mullock said: "We have had problems with this job which has slowed down our work rate considerably. We apologise to motorists for any inconvenience caused by the one way system and to residents for restrictions to residential parking, but it has been necessary to allow our engineers to work safely and we are now on track to complete the work by the middle of October.
"The new pipe we have laid is made of hard wearing plastic which, once in the ground, will last up to 80 years with little or no maintenance and will ensure that residents will continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply."
