Carillion Secures £100m Contract

Leading support services company, Carillion, has secured two further successes in the education sector worth in the region of £100 million.

Carillion has been appointed preferred bidder for the £42 million Basildon Academies contract by Essex County Council. This project involves both refurbishment and new build work for two federated secondary schools, Barstable School and Chalvedon School, in East Basildon. These schools will become academies in September 2009. Work on Barstable School is scheduled for completion by December 2009 and on Chalvedon School by December 2011.

In addition, Aston University has awarded Carillion a £57 million contract to build high quality student accommodation in Birmingham, comprising a total of 1,307 student rooms on the main university campus. Work on the new accommodation will be completed by August 2010.

Carillion Chief Executive, John McDonough, said: "Education is an important growth area for Carillion and we have established a leading position in this market, particularly in the Building Schools for the Future programme, which includes the new Academies.

"We are delighted to have been selected by Essex County Council and Aston University for these important projects and look forward to working with them to provide exciting new facilities that will support their objectives for educational excellence."
