Strong Progress Being Made On Olympic Park Utilities

Construction News Image
While speaking at a business conference, Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) Chief Executive David Higgins revealed that strong progress is being made on Olympic Park's utilities and infrastructure.

These new facilities are providing the backbone for the Olympic Park both during and after the Games.

Mr Higgins said: "While the flagship new sports venues we are building understandably get the most attention, the huge amount of work currently going on to construct new infrastructure and utilities in the Olympic Park is every bit as essential."

The infrastructure and utilities work being delivered by the ODA includes more than 30 new bridges and 20km of new roads. New water, gas, electrical and telecoms networks are all being installed.

Piling works have started on the foundations of a new Energy Centre, which will provide efficient power, heating and cooling systems both for the Games and the local communities in the area after 2012.

A wind turbine in the north of the Park will also play a key role in delivering energy to the site and contribute to London 2012's commitment to use renewable and efficient technology.
