International Construction and Management Consultant, Turner & Townsend, has been appointed by Fujian Daimler automotive (FJDA) to provide project management services on the construction of the new Fuzhou Manufacturing Plant.
Fujian Daimler Automotive is a joint venture between Fujian Motor Industry group, Daimler AG and China Motors Corporation.
FJDA will manufacture 40,000 Mercedes-Benz multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) annually at the plant, which is located in the city of Qingkou, approximately 25km south of the city of Fuzhou, Fujian.
The plant, which is being constructed on a 333,000m2 plot, will encompass the following activities: body welding, body painting, general assembly as well as an administration building, canteen, warehouses and research and development centre and utilities stations.
Turner & Townsend will be providing Project Management services including the contractor to bring the project to completion at the earliest opportunity.
Duncan Stone, director of Turner & Townsend, commented: "We have been invited into the project mid way through by Daimler in view of our ability to rapidly mobilise experienced resources familiar with major manufacturing and large scale automotive projects in China.
"Working at the clients level we are inputting professional construction management consultancy to bring the diverse range of partners on the project together and to provide direction in establishing priorities and solving key issues in the processes and organisation of the project."
