£2m Scheme Radically Upgrades Council Flats

Construction News Image
A £2 million scheme to re-clad and upgrade Lansdowne Court, a block of 131 flats in Easton, Bristol, has been completed.

The thermal insulation cladding has improved the energy efficiency of the building reducing fuel bills and saving energy.

"The residents are delighted," said Cllr John Bees, Cabinet Member for Transformation and Resources. "This scheme has made a real difference particularly to improving energy efficiency. One gentleman told us his heating bill had been reduced from £20 to £3 per week. But it isn't only money but precious energy that is being saved."

The sixties block has been rendered and finished in a cream and mushroom colour and work has also included rewiring and installing some new bathrooms and kitchens, where the previous ones did not meet the decent housing standard.

"A large part of the cost is erecting the scaffolding so we carried out as much work as we could at the same time. The result is the very out of date and inefficient building is now much smarter, much more economic to run and a better environment for residents to live in," said Mr Bees.
