Eastend Homes has chosen United House to redevelop and refurbish 200 apartments in the Island Gardens Estate in Tower Hamlets.

The project, with a value of £2.5m will see the transformation of the estate as part of the first joint project for the two organisations.

Due to previous under-investment, the introduction of the Decent Homes Standard, has given an opportunity to improve the lives of the residents living in the properties.

The refurbishment includes an upgrade of the communal areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, re-wiring the buildings and general maintenance.

The choice of United House for the refurbishment was based on the decision of local residents who were heavily involved at all stages of the selection process.

The refurbishment of the site is due to commence in September 2008. The expected completion date of the project is summer 2010.
