DCD Media-owned documentary producer West Park Pictures has been commissioned by Channel 4 and Discovery Networks EMEA to produce 'Tallest Tower', a two-part documentary which will document the construction of Europe's tallest habitable building, London Bridge Tower, also known as the 'Shard of Glass'.
Located in one of the city's most sensitive conservation areas, this controversial building standing at 1016 ft will incorporate highly innovative designs, changing London's skyline forever.
Generating its own energy, this environmentally sustainable community of offices, apartments, shops and 7-star hotel is the vision of property magnate Irvine Sellar. It is world-renowned architect Renzo Piano's first construction project in the UK and one of the most complex challenges of his career.
Filming over three years and with exclusive access to the site, the documentary will follow every stage of the project as it unfolds - from conception through to construction and occupancy. The building will open in time for the 2012 London Olympics.
Andre Singer, Chief Executive Officer and Creative Director, West Park Pictures, said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to document step-by-step the trials and tribulations that are inevitable with a project of this magnitude. It will no doubt generate strong interest from broadcasters and audiences internationally."
'Tallest Tower' is executive produced by Andre Singer and directed by Mandy Chang for West Park Pictures. It was commissioned for Channel 4 by David Glover and for Discovery Networks EMEA by Lisa Weinbrenn.
