The first residents will be moving into a new £5 million extra care facility in Alma Road, Millfield, Peterborough this month.
The Pavilions will be operated by Axiom Housing Association and includes 40 flats designed to give people over the age of 60 the security and privacy of private accommodation with all the benefits of extra care right on their doorstep. Facilities include a large lounge, beverage bar, laundry room, library, hairdressing salon, multi-functional craft room, a mini shop and buggy storage area.
Thirty-five of the flats will be available for rent through Peterborough City Council's housing options and five are available for purchase through New Build HomeBuy, better known as shared ownership.
The care and support services within the development have been jointly commissioned by Peterborough City Council's Supporting People programme and Peterborough Primary Care Trust, and will be provided by Housing 21. The seven acre site also includes 79 new homes which are being developed by Accent Nene to provide rented, shared ownership and outright sale properties for families.
Councillor Graham Murphy, Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and Economic Development, said: "The Pavilions is a fantastic example of how agencies in Peterborough are working together to come up with creative solutions to address our housing needs in the city. It will give older people, including those with additional health needs, the opportunity to live independently and still receive the extra care they need."
