Kier Sheffield was recently presented with a Green Heroes Wall Shield by top botanist and TV personality, Professor David Bellamy OBE, in recognition of its environmental project - Reducing our Carbon Footprint with the Community.

The Shields are awarded annually in recognition of companies, councils and communities that carry out projects to enhance the environment, and wish to share their experience and knowledge with the world.

The judges commented: "As an environmentally aware company, Kier is keen to reduce its carbon footprint. Kier achieved this by involving the community in tree planting activities with schools and nature groups, as well as investing in green technology."

Kier Building Maintenance Environmental Manager Simon Michie, who has also recently won an award from the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF) for his excellent performance in the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment course, said: "It is a great achievement for Kier Sheffield to be recognised for its continuing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint in the local community. Improving the local environment is key to what we do and we strive to continue our commitment for the future."
