The National Housing Federation (NHF) has welcomed the publication of yesterday's 'long overdue' renewable energy strategy.
Commenting on the proposals, NHF Chief Executive David Orr said: "These proposals are long overdue, but welcome.
"The UK is way behind the rest of Europe on renewable energy. At the current rate of solar panel installation it would take us 1,500 years just to catch up with the number of solar panels Germany already has.
"Our housing stock accounts for 27% of all our carbon emissions, so this is a hugely important issue - and one that must be tackled now.
"To back these welcome plans on renewable energy, the Government should now concentrate on putting in place realistic financial incentives to encourage the uptake of solar panels and other forms of microgeneration across the country - and reduce VAT on all home adaptations that save energy."
