Houses To Be Made More Energy Efficient

Construction News Image
Homes in the Llwynhendy area of Llanelli will be made more energy efficient in a pilot scheme being launched this month.

Loft and cavity wall insulation will be carried out by the Home Energy Efficiency Partnership, a partnership between Carmarthenshire County Council and the company Miller Pattison, which has already carried out insulation work to council properties throughout the county.

The council's Energy Efficiency Advisor Graham Harries said: "The measures are being carried out to reduce heat loss, which will help to keep homes warmer for longer, and reduce fuel bills.

"The Energy Savings Trust estimates that if lofts are insulated, you could save around £110 a year. If you fill a cavity wall, you could save around £90 a year."

The council's Housing Services will write to all householders in the area before hand, informing them about the scheme.

This will be followed up by Miller Pattison staff, who will arrange to carry out surveys of the properties.

All of Miller Pattison's staff will carry identification which householders are encouraged to ask to see to make sure that they are from the company.

The surveys will determine whether the properties are suitable for loft and/or cavity wall insulation.
