Plans for a private care home at the former Llwyngwern Care Home have been approved by Carmarthenshire planners.
Consensus Support Services Wales applied to Carmarthenshire County Council for full planning permission to refurbish and extend the former local authority care home at Heol y Parc, Hendy.
The company plans to provide a 20-bed care home for people with learning difficulties who have been diagnosed with dementia.
An officers' report to the council planning committee said that planning permission is not needed for the new use for the home as it does not constitute a material change of use.
The application is for the general refurbishment and extension of the premises to enable it to be converted into a specialist facility. Officers recommended approving the application.
The committee granted planning permission.
Meanwhile plans for almost 250 houses on land at the Ffos Las Racecourse development in Carway have also been approved by Carmarthenshire planners.
Persimmon Homes Ltd already had outline permission for housing development and had made a reserved matters application for the detailed scheme.
The development includes 243 homes, conservatories, garages, car parking and public open space.
