An initiative to improve construction industry safety in Carmarthenshire has been an outstanding success.
A series of events was run by the South Wales Working Well Together Group, which includes representatives from Carmarthenshire County Council and the building industry, to promote construction safety within the industry and give the smaller enterprises the opportunity to share best practices.
Carmarthenshire County Council Technical Services Health and Safety Officer Martin Williams said: "We ran a series of events with LBS Builders Merchants at their Llandeilo, Ammanford and Llanelli branches.
"The events consisted of a DVD running in the background which highlights the five main causes of injury and ill health on construction sites, with health and safety advisors from construction industry and major clients on hand to give free advice.
"A total of 87 people visited the information stands at LBS Builders Merchants - these represented the target audience of the small building firm or sole trader.
"The information given addressed the five major risks from construction health and safety, working at height, welfare issues on construction sites, site transport and use of plant (dumpers / excavators etc), manual handling and asbestos.
"Construction continues to be the industry with the largest number of fatal and serious injuries in the UK with falls from heights being the main killer."
