Two Carmarthenshire Youth Council members will visit Barcelona this summer to work on a global volunteering project, ‘Step by Step’, provided by the UNA Exchange Programme.

The project reaches out to people living in disadvantaged areas, where poor living conditions are apparent.

Charlene Davies, Carmarthenshire Youth Council Chairperson and Anna Watts, Secretary, from Carway, were accepted on the programme due to their extensive experience in community work within Carmarthenshire, and will demonstrate their knowledge in the work camp which will take place from the 1-14 August.

As part of their duties, the two will work on the redevelopment of two flats on Barcelona’s Rivera Neighbourhood, ensuring that local people have essential facilities and sound living conditions.

Young people from all around the globe will join the girls, giving them the opportunity to build relationships and to have an insight into different cultures and traditions. As well as this, the girls will run educative workshops in order to share best practice and raise awareness on work within communities.

Charlene said: "This is a very exciting time for us, offering our help in disadvantaged areas was one of our objectives and I’m so glad we have been given this opportunity, and very much hope to make a difference."
