Plans to convert the former Pump House at Llanelli’s North Dock, Wales into a restaurant have been approved by Carmarthenshire councillors.

The proposals by Bendigo 9-10 went before the planning committee yesterday.

They are part of the mixed-use urban development planned by Llanelli Waterside – a partnership between Carmarthenshire County Council and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Llanelli Waterside is a £200m regeneration programme focusing on 100 acres of development land and is designed to bring significant economic benefits to the region.

It aims to integrate the town with the coastline and is expected to create up to 1500 new jobs, provide 1000 new homes, to create 340,000 sq ft of business and office space, and 180,000 sq ft of leisure development.

Outline permission for mixed-use urban development including a hotel, shops, and housing was granted last week.

The current application sought full planning permission to restore, convert and extend the former Pump House to form a high quality restaurant and linked training facility.
