Wildmoor Quarry Products has been fined £5,000 and ordered to pay £3,520 in costs at Bromsgrove and Redditch Magistrates Court, after an employee suffered head injuries after a 30kg lump of sandstone fell on his head.
The incident happened on 21 March last year at Bromsgrove quarry and the victim suffered blood clots and spent three days in hospital.
The lump, measuring 350mm x 250mm, fell and struck him on the head, however no head protection was being worn.
The employee has now recovered and is back at work.
The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning on the importance of wearing protective clothing and ensuring all staff are trained to use machinery safely.
