Cornish residents are being invited to help decide what Cornwall will look like in 20 years time by taking part in a consultation into the new Sustainable Community Strategy.
The Sustainable Community Strategy for Cornwall has been produced by the Cornwall Strategic Partnership, a group of 40 representatives of the public, private and voluntary sectors working together to promote the economic, social and environmental well-being of people in the county.
"Cornwall needs an ambitious strategy if we are to tackle the key issues facing Cornwall, such as housing and the need for decent paid jobs," said Eric Brooke, the Executive Member for Community Services, and Vice Chairman of the Cornwall Strategic Partnership. "We want every person in the county to look at what is being proposed and to have their say in shaping our future."
Blair Thompson, chair of the Cornwall Strategic Partnership, explained that the Strategy was based on an in-depth analysis of the demographic, social, economic and environmental trends affecting the quality of life in the county, the aspirations of local people and the characteristics of sustainable communities and the strengths and weaknesses of Cornwall as a location for sustainable communities.
The Strategic outlines a number of issues facing Cornwall, including environment and climate change, housing, economic competitiveness, and transport connectivity.
Copies of the Sustainable Community Strategy for Cornwall are available from the chief executive's department, Cornwall County Council, County Hall, Truro, TR1 3AY or telephone: 01872 322000 or visit the website on: www.cornwallstrategicpartnership.gov.uk or email: scs@cornwall.gov.uk
