Projects to kickstart the fight against climate change have been given the green light by the Lancashire Local Rossendale committee.

Energy saving is the aim of three separate schemes, the first in the district to receive grant aid from Lancashire County Council's Climate Change Fund.

The Rossendale Climate Change Group won £3,225 for a range of work. They will visit the homes of local people with smart electricity meters to show them how much electricity they are using to promote energy saving. The group will also advise other local organisations on actions they can take to combat climate change.

The Rossendale Civic Trust received £3,795 to replace an outdated boiler at their HQ - The Weavers' Cottage, Rawtenstall. Work will also be carried out to improve doors and windows to prevent heat loss. The building is a popular venue for local groups to hold meetings. The Trust hope the work will not only save energy but make the venue more attractive for hire, allowing them to raise funds.

St Peter's Community Centre, Haslingden, received £3,160 to insulate the roof space of their busy building. Small-scale construction work will also be carried out to make the building less drafty and maximise energy-saving.

The Climate Change Fund aims to boost activity at the grassroots level by encouraging groups to set up their own projects.
