Today's official opening of the Knowle West Media Centre follows a £1.38 million investment from the South West RDA - the project's main financial backer - as part of its commitment to creating a vibrant local economy.

It is the Agency's vision to strengthen the region's economy in a sustainable way. The new Knowle West Media Centre showcases how this can be achieved using creative and cutting-edge technologies, including the use of straw bales for the main structure of the building.


Chris Garcia, Head of Creative Industries, said: "The centre will play a key role in engaging with young people to explore their interests and ambitions. It will give them the opportunity to learn new skills and secure jobs, unleashing previously untapped creative talent into the local economy.

"The creative industries sector represents an important part of Bristol's economy and it is growing fast. The centre will provide the necessary equipment, space and training to continue to build the city's reputation and act as a beacon for others to follow.

It will also provide space for the creation of new businesses that will have access to all the facilities.
