BRE has acquired two specialist business divisions of i&i limited, one of Europe's leading intelligent building consultancy.
This acquisition brings two important service areas into BRE – intelligent building systems consultancy and the world-renowned Centre of Excellence for Intelligent Building (ibexcellence).
Commenting on the acquisition, Dr Peter Bonfield, Chief Executive of BRE said: "We're delighted to secure this acquisition from i&i limited, since they complement and reinforce our research and consultancy services in this area.
"This acquisition will further enable us to provide our clients with a range of new services focussed on exploiting the impact of information technologies on the built environment.
"This integrated approach will support the design and delivery of better performing buildings and communities in the 21st century. The BRE Group is set to become a global leader in this field."
Speaking from Beijing China, where he was leading a UK delegation on intelligent & green buildings, Alan Kell, the former Managing Director of i&i limited and now Director of BRE’s new International Centre of Excellence for Intelligent Building said: "After 10 years of developing our unique positioning in this field, we’re delighted to have this opportunity to merge with BRE.
"Working with BRE's unique expertise and networks, we'll be able to take this business to a completely new level.
"In many parts of the world – especially in fast growing countries like China and India - it’s critically important that we integrate technology-driven change with the demands for a fully sustainable built environment."
