Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families Ed Balls has given the go-ahead for the next stage towards a new Academy in Wyke by launching a preliminary study of a newly identified site.

A potential site in Wyke, made up of the High Fernley primary school site and adjacent land, has now been found by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and Bradford Council - and this could be suitable for an Academy to replace Wyke Manor School.

Any final decision will need to come after a full consultation with the local community and careful consideration of their views.

Mr Balls has announced that a preliminary study will now look at the possibility of building an Academy on this site, in the heart of the Wyke community.

DCSF and Bradford Council have been working closely on a number of Academy projects as part of Bradford's plans for secondary education in the city.

Wyke Manor School has been underperforming for some time, although it has recently benefited from support by the local Dixons Academy and has seen an up-turn in results.
