The DfT consultation on an expansion to Heathrow officially closed this week and the council has submitted over 16,000 response cards to them.

The response cards, handed in by both residents and council staff, showed an overwhelming objection to the expansion plans with 93% of people registering their vote against increasing capacity at Heathrow.

Cllr Keith Burrows, Cabinet Member for Planning and Transportation said: "We would like to thank everyone that took the opportunity to have their say on the consultation, either by returning our response cards or writing directly to the Department for Transport.

"Allowing further expansion is manifestly not in the interests of the 700 families whose homes will be destroyed - nor of those in communities on either side of the airport who will suffer increased air and noise pollution. We remain hopeful that our voices will be heard and await the formal response later this year."
