New Plans For Leisure Complex To Be Unveiled

Plans for the new Fitness Suite, Exercise Studios and Children's Playzone will be unveiled at Purbeck Sports Centre's Annual Customer Focus Meeting on Thursday 13 March.

Starting at 7.30 pm at the Sports Centre, members, non-members and the local community will have an opportunity to see the new images for the first time. There will also be a chance to ask questions, review the last 12 months and find out what else is happening.

The plans will see the fitness room extended to over three times its current size. The new suite will feature the latest cardio and strength-based equipment and the new fitness area, open all day every day, will have dedicated changing rooms and be fully staffed at all times.

A new exercise studio will be built in place of two of the existing squash courts, with a mezzanine floor installed to create a new and improved children's soft play area. Two squash courts will remain.

Solar panels will also be installed as a source of renewable energy to offset the increased electricity consumption of an improved facility.

Cllr Mike Pratt, Sports and Recreation Adviser for Purbeck District Council said: "I am delighted that the community will have the chance to see these ambitious plans and ask questions. The new suite will transform the existing first-class Sports Centre into a leisure and fitness venue which will rival any private gym."

Work will begin in April with completion anticipated for September. The work will be done in phases to minimise disruption and all of the centre's activities will be unaffected.
