Green Gift For Hillingdon Residents

Hillingdon Council is teaming up with Hillingdon Homes to give the residents of Verbena Close, West Drayton, a green gift this week when they plant new trees in their housing estate.

The brand new tree species to the borough, 'Chitalpa 'Summer Bells', are being planted in the following the requests of residents and coincides with the start of the National Tree Care Campaign.

Cllr Jenkins, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "Hillingdon is one of the greenest boroughs in London and it is important we preserve our trees and plant new ones as they make a vital contribution to the local environment."

Rod Smith, Hillingdon Homes Head of Estate Management, said: "Working with the council, Hillingdon Homes are delighted to be taking this 'first step to tree planting'. As the keepers of over 5,500 trees on the shared parts of council housing estates, Hillingdon Homes adopted and published a Trees Policy during 2007. This policy makes a firm commitment to investing in new tree stock for the benefit of local communities and future generations."
