One of Scotland's leading specialist distributors of renewable heating systems, Ecoliving, welcomed the announcement that the Scottish Government is looking to review planning legislation on the installation of micro-renewables.

Mark Henderson, Director of Ecoliving, said: "Currently £5 billion is wasted on energy in the UK every year and it is essential that we start to take steps towards using renewable energy sources.

"Rather than using traditional boilers, our network of installers fit renewable energy heating systems such as heat pumps which take free renewable energy from the ground, water or air. These can be up to 500% efficient, producing five units of energy for every unit used.

"As well as environmental benefits, the systems can also reduce the household energy bill by 50-60% every year.

"These are still a relatively new concept in the UK but the technology has a proven track record in Sweden where they are installed in over 80 percent of new homes. Any steps by the Scottish Government to encourage people to install micro-generation equipment is to be welcomed."
