Chelmsford Borough Council's Neighbourhood Environmental Action Team (NEAT) organised a tree planting session at the request of local residents in North Springfield last week.

In total, nine trees were planted, including five small leaf lime trees on the grass verge in New Bowers Way near the junction with Pump Lane, and four grey alders on the grass play area in Bouchers Mead.

This will go some way to improving the appearance, air quality and enjoyment in North Springfield.

The Council's Arboricultural and Conservation Officer helped with the project and a grant from Essex County Council paid for the trees and for them to be planted.

Cabinet Member for Strategic Housing and the Environment, Councillor Duncan Lumley said: "This tree planting session was a fantastic initiative, the trees have really improved the appearance of the area and local residents can now enjoy their environment even more."
