The Ministry of Justice has re-appointed construction and management consultants, Turner & Townsend to provide project management services to HM Prison Service in Nottingham until 2010.
Building upon an on-going relationship with the Ministry of Justice, Turner & Townsend will be working with HMP Nottingham providing Client Representative services to support the national accommodation programme under the Strategic Alliance Agreement framework.
The company will also support the redevelopment of the prison’s accommodation into a successful, modern facility.
HMP Nottingham opened in 1890 as a city gaol and in 1997 it was re-rolled as a category B local prison serving the courts of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire with capacity for 550 prisoners.
To support increasing prisoner numbers and to improve the living and working conditions at the establishment, Turner & Townsend is helping to deliver new, larger prisoner accommodation and associated ancillary facilities to replace all the remaining Victorian buildings on the site.
Detailed security and operational considerations are being built into the design and delivery of the scheme. Turner & Townsend is managing the detailed user consultation process to ensure that all the project team has appropriate input into the final design.
Turner & Townsend's Area Manager, Mark Edge, said: "The framework strategy is based on partnering and the principals of the Egan agenda in order to deliver best-value, quality projects to the Prison under PPC 2000."
This framework forms part of Turner & Townsend’s growing portfolio of projects in the Law and Order sector, which includes police services, training centres and court buildings.
