Design Team Announced For New Liverpool Stadium

Architects HKS and engineers Ramboll Whitbybird's design have been selected for Liverpool FC's new football stadium.

The owners of the club revealed the reasons behind their choice, saying HKS and Ramboll Whitbybird's were more cost effective and supporter-friendly than initial ones, which had gone £50m over budget.

Co-owner of the club, Tom Hicks said: "HKS has developed a more efficient design that, at the same time, is just as stunning as its original design.

"Liverpool supporters should have high expectations for the future: a premier sporting experience at their new stadium at Stanley Park and a winning club on the pitch for years to come."

Lain O'Rourke has been named contractor of the scheme and KUD International as project manager of the new 71,000-seater stadium which is due to open in August 2011.
