Plans for a £30m school in Nalislea, Somerset, have moved a significant step forward with the appointment of the preferred construction company to build the school.

Carillion Construction Limited have been selected as the preferred bidder to build the new school on the Nailsea Community School site.

Designs will be finalised during the next few months and construction is set to start in the summer. The school is due to be completed by the end of 2009.

The new building, which will be constructed near to the existing school to minimise disruption, will accommodate up to 1,500 pupils in the state-of-the-art environment including the latest technology.

Once the new school is being used, the old building will be demolished. A large proportion of the playing fields will be unaffected by the construction and demolition work.

The new school is being funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) as part of the Government’s Building Schools for the Future programme.
