Residents and businesses have just two weeks left to make their views known on a new transport strategy for Aberdeen.
The Final Draft Local Transport Strategy (LTS) 2008-2012 was published last November. Aberdeen City Council is encouraging all stakeholders to send in their responses before the close of the public consultation deadline on Friday, January 18.
The Final Draft of the new LTS sets out the City Council's vision and objectives for improving Aberdeen's transport system and puts forward a comprehensive list of actions and policies which it will strive to implement between 2008 and 2012.
The LTS considers walking, cycling, public transport, travel planning, road maintenance, road safety, parking and freight.
Although the document only covers the period up to the planned opening of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR), it proposes a number of "demonstration projects" for a range of interventions that could be used to lock in the benefits of the new route.
These include innovative measures that could improve the City’s transport network, such as High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes and Large Vehicle Lanes.
Copies of the Final Draft LTS can be viewed at council offices and public libraries, including the Central Library. Copies can also be downloaded from the City Council website at www.aberdeencity.gov.uk by navigating to the Local Transport Strategy page (under 'L' in the A-Z section).
A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) has also been undertaken on the Final Draft LTS which can also be viewed through the above means.
After analysis of the consultation responses, a Final LTS will be produced and presented to the City Council in March for approval and adoption.
Comments can be sent to: LTS Consultation, Planning and Infrastructure, Strategic Leadership, Aberdeen City Council, 9th Floor, St Nicholas House, Broad Street, Aberdeen AB10 1BW, or e-mailed to LTSconsultation@aberdeencity.gov.uk.
