Rok Set For Second Stage Of School Redevelopment

Glasgow builder Rok is set to begin its second phase of redevelopment for a South Lanarkshire school.

The firm recently completed the construction of Carluke High School's brand new premises, built on playing fields adjoining the original school building.

The modern purpose-built property includes a unique 'street area', which will act as a social hub for the school’s 1,300 pupils and staff, catering for a variety of assembly, dining and social functions, as well as offering an open teaching space for music and drama.

Work is due to begin imminently on the demolition of the old school to make way for the creation of brand new sports pitches, suitable for a range of activities including running, football and hockey.

Head Teacher of Carluke High School, Jim Yuille, said: "The facilities are absolutely first-class and I am certain they will encourage and inspire our pupils and staff on a daily basis. I am also certain the building will become a focal point for the local community and will be warmly received by everyone in the area."

In other ROK news, the company has said it expects its annual results to be "significantly" ahead of last year.

Rok said its building arm "continues to perform well" with revenue and profits expected to increase "substantially".

Its maintenance arm is seeing organic growth levels in excess of 15% as well as improved operating margins.

Chief executive Garvis Snook said the firm's development arm would reduce its exposure to the sluggish commercial property sector, which he believes will be "under pressure for the next few years".
