Bristol Students To Build For The Future

Students at Bristol's City Academy are looking to build a great future with the help of a construction company.

The pupils have received professional tools from Leadbitter Construction, a firm that has been awarded contracts to build homes and shops as part of the redevelopment of the Barton Hill area of the city.

The equipment includes shovels, a cement mixer, trowels, soldering and cutting tools, and health and safety gear such as hard hats and reflective jackets.

Around 60 young people from years nine to 12 who are taking a diploma in construction will benefit from the donation.

The two-year Btec diploma is split between theory and practice. It includes an introduction to plumbing and electrics, brick and block trowel work and carpentry and joinery.

Andy Beaumont, City Academy's programme leader for product design and construction, said he was grateful to Leadbitter construction for the donation.

He said: "It is essential young people experience working with professional quality tooling as they would on site and it also helps develop a level of respect caring for and maintaining them."
