Building firms in the south west of England are struggling to recruit enough skilled staff, a survey has revealed.

The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) conducted the survey amongst its members and found that 45% of tradesmen were facing difficulties when filling vacancies.

Carpenters and electricians are the hardest to come by, according to the study, which covers July to September of this year.

Scotland was particularly badly affected, with 84 per cent of builders reporting difficulty in finding labour.

However, Brian Berry, Director of External Affairs at the FMB has argued that the ongoing problem about finding enough skilled workers merely underlines the strength in the construction market.
