Turnberry Golf Club Up For Sale

Turnberry Golf Club which is set to host the 2009 Open Championship has been put up for sale with a price tag of £100 million.

Starwood Hotels, the courses US owners, want to retain a minority ownership and continue managing the site but need an investor to fund a major re-development.

The firm said it wanted the investment partner to "realise the development potential of the resort." Currently 300 acres of land are undeveloped.

The sale will include two championship courses, a nine-hole course and a luxury hotel with 219-bedroom cottages and lodges.

Stephen Walker, Sales and Marketing Director at Turnberry, said: "We are doing this to realise the development potential of the resort, we want the right people to help us develop Turnberry."

Starwood bought the 800-acre Turnberry complex 10 years ago for around £32 million.
