John Laing and residential partner Gladedale have concluded a deal to build new college facilities in Hastings, East Sussex
The £75 million Hastings College project will include facilities for up to 2,500 students, as well as housing, healthcare, parking and a business and technology centre.
The development will be spread across two sites at Station Plaza in Hastings and Ore Valley, Rother.
The two companies have also purchased three other sites from Hastings College, which will be used for housing. Funds from this purchase will be used to part-fund the construction of the new college buildings.
The residential apartments adjacent to the new college building at Station Plaza will be developed by Gladedale. 25 per cent of the units will be delivered as affordable homes with another three per cent of the units being disability enabled.
Jamie Kerr, managing director of John Laing Projects & Developments commented: "We are delighted to be assisting with the regeneration of the wider area by transforming the estate of Hastings College and delivering a state-of-the-art facility.
Laing O'Rourke – the construction partner of John Laing – started work on the college buildings in September, with completion due by the end of 2009.
