A builder who carried out wheelchair-friendly renovations to the home of a disabled customer has been named the most "heavenly" in Britain.

Dave Stowell from Pembrokeshire in Wales, was awarded the title at the Master Builder of the Year ceremony.

Mr Stowell was nominated by pensioner David Edwards, after carrying out work to extend the kitchen and bedroom at Mr Edwards home, as well as adding a wet room to the property.

Mr Stowell was commended, not only for his work, but also for his customer care, which went above and beyond his role as a builder.

"Have you ever heard of a builder bringing his client tea in bed or popping in to check he's okay when his full-time carer is on holiday?", said Mr Edwards.

"Dave didn't go the extra mile - he went the extra 10 miles.

Mr Stowell, who works for DDS General Builders, said he was "flabbergasted" to win the award, adding that he is "just an ordinary builder".

The annual awards are organised by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) and celebrate outstanding work delivered by builders. All winners were nominated by their respective clients.

Oxfordshire's Bybridge Construction took the overall crown of Best Builder in Britain for their work transforming a previously derelict Chapel into a modern home with an all glass room overlooking a hillside stream in Stanton St John, near Oxford.
