Penultimate Phase Of Business Park Nears Completion

The penultimate phase of a business park in North East England which could create as many as 3,500 jobs is almost finished.

Spectrum 4 and Spectrum 5, part of Spectrum Business Park in Saeham, are due to be completed by developers the Hillford Group, at the end of the month.

The flexible office buildings, which are available to let either as a whole or individual floors and wings, are the third phase of the business park, located on the 34-acre site of the former Dawdon Gallery.

Work will start on the final phase, Spectrum 7 and Spectrum 8, early next year.

Ed Rowley, acting director of Regeneration at One NorthEast, said: "Spectrum Business Park will bring a major employment and business boost to Seaham.

"It has the capacity to cater for around 3,500 new jobs, as well as dozens of new and expanding regional and national companies. That’s great news, not only for Seaham but the region as a whole."

The site was reclaimed and developed with money from the National Coalfields Programme (NCP), run by English Partnerships and One NorthEast, which hsees the development of brownfield sites throughout the region and the UK. The NCP assists former coalfield communities across England, by reclaiming the sites for the creation of employment, new homes, commercial premises and public spaces.

Paul Wellstead, Managing Director of the Hillford Group, said: "At 35,000 sq ft and 40,000 sq ft respectively, Spectrum 4 and 5 add further options to the range of office accommodation already available on the site. In addition to the low rental figure of £11.95 per sq ft and excellent incentives, the staff facilities and demographics resources of the Seaham area make Spectrum a prime location for office occupiers."

Spectrum Business Park is already home to the Pensions Service and the new Business Link North East, which went live in April this year, replacing the four existing Business Links.
