Official Opening For Armed Forces Memorial

The new national Armed Forces Memorial in Staffordshire has officially opened to the public.

A £6 million monument in Staffordshire, constructed as a memorial dedicated to members of the UK Armed Forces who have died since World War II, has been officially opened to the public.

The stone circle at the National Memorial Arboretum, in Alrewas, bears the names of 16,000 service personnel, with room for a further 15,000 more.

The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales attended the dedication of the new memorial on 12 October 2007.

The memorial was designed by architect Liam O'Connor and honours those killed in combat in training, as well as by acts of terrorism.
