Gretna Football Club have confirmed they are in talks with the Scottish Executive over the construction of a new Eco Stadium for the club.
A plot on the outskirts of Gretna has been earmarked for the pioneering structure, which will house the Scottish third division fans in an environmentally friendly theatre.
Gretna have been unable to play at their present home ground Raydale Park this season because it does not meet Scottish Premier League requirements and have been using Fir Park for their maiden top-flight campaign.
The possibility of upgrading their own stadium was looked at, but the new plan has brushed such thoughts aside.
Early speculations for the stadium suggest it will incorporate some 6,000 seats with Astroturf facilities for the benefit of the local community.
The Scottish Government approached the club soon after they decided to relocate their stadium as opposed to simply fitting out their present ground with an extra 6,000 seats. Such a development would be a first for Scotland and could influence the way sporting arenas are built in the region for years to come.
