An Edinburgh firm is challenging its employees to go green and reduce their carbon footprint by 10 per cent.

Home Scotland has decided to adopt the policy after a recent report showed that each year Home employees drive over 2.5 million miles to do their jobs, which equates to approximately 577 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

The company has issued a series of measures to give their staff the best possible chance to achieve the goal. These include, car sharing for external meetings, more use of video and telephone conferencing, and a greater use of the train service, which produces 25 per cent lower emissions than using a car.

Linda Clark, Home’s Director of Asset Strategy, said: “This is another example of how we are translating our organisational commitment to respect the environment into practical action. We are doing all we can to encourage our customers and staff to change their behaviour for the benefit of ourselves, our planet and the generations to come.”

Home Scotland has 104 employees dotted throughout Scotland is a provider of affordable housing and care and support to growing communities.

UK based parent company, Home, has a turnover of £230 million and manages 52,000 homes.
