Scottish Student Wins National Women In Property Award

Fiona Forrest, a Glasgow student, has been presented with £1000 and a trophy as winner of the National Association of Women in Property student awards. The awards, which are part of the Women in Property's 20th birthday celebrations, were open to female students throughout the UK studying a property-related degree course. At Claridge's in London this week, Fiona, who is studying Property Development and Valuation at Glasgow Caledonian, beat another nine regional winners to claim the award, and as part of her prize she will also receive a summer work placement, a mentor and membership of the Women in Property Association, which boasts 1,500 members.

Chairman of the Scottish branch of WIP, Nicola Barclay, who is land director of eco-friendly Scottish housebuilders Macfarlane Homes, said: "It is fantastic that a Scottish student has walked away with this award. The judges were very impressed with Fiona’s in-depth knowledge of her profession, the environment and general property issues, alongside a clear vision for the future. She is an inspiration to other girls wishing to follow a career in property and construction, which has been predominantly a male oriented profession up to now."

The Association, whose membership includes architects, surveyors and other professionals, encourages the fairer sex to go into the world of property, and supports the retention of women in the industry through its unique mentoring programme.
