The Pier Arts Centre in Orkney, Scotland boasts an impressive collection of British Modernist Art – and now Osmo treated flooring.

The eye-catching harbour-side Gallery re-opened this July following a major regeneration project. The contemporary design had to remain sympathetic to the traditional building – in the heart of a conservation area. For the architects Reiach and Hall Osmo was the natural choice.

Preserving the natural charm of the weather worn stone harbour was of the utmost importance. The architects specified that all of the flooring and timber paneling was treated with Osmo Wood Wax Finish in White Spruce (colour 3111). This light, semi-transparent wax was applied to contrasting darker timber (Oak and Douglas Fir) and seems to echo the bleak and dramatic landscape.

"Osmo’s Wood Wax Finish in White Spruce gave us the desired effect of Nordic or Limed Wood," explained Project Architect, David Anderson from Reiach and Hall. "We are very happy with the end result."
