Rhondda Cynon Taff Council's engineers (RCT) are using Tensar International's ground stabilisation solutions to repair a partial landslide with site-won material in the Rhondda Valley, South Wales. The four month project is due for completion in October 2007.

Stabilising an old landfill in Danylan (close to Pontypridd) has challenged RCT engineers since 2004. Upon consultation, the Tensar design team demonstrated that stabilisation of the slope could be achieved by re-using the original slipped waste material, reinforced with Tensar geogrids. This solution rapidly overcame the difficulties of topography and fill, and at a lower cost than more traditional techniques.

Andrew Stone, Capital Projects Manager for RCT, said: "The Tensar Technology solution has enabled us to complete the work in a more sustainable way by using the land slipped material. It also aided a quick turnaround, in around four months - despite this summer's atrocious weather - which made it impossible to go on site at times."
