"Everyone has a right to a decent affordable home and when that right is being denied it's not surprising there is a public outcry," said Grahame Barn, Director of FMB Scotland.

He was speaking in response to the current housing crisis and the public demonstration of support for Shelter Scotland's campaign involving over 30,000 postcards being delivered to the Parliament.

Barn continued: "FMB wants the Government to commit funding to address the serious housing shortage in Scotland. There is a serious undersupply of housing in Scotland, which needs to be urgently addressed. The number of homeless households has doubled since 2001 and there are over 200,000 people on housing waiting lists. It is totally unacceptable that the average age of first time buyers has increased to 37. Under supply of housing is having a negative impact on communities and families, which proves harmful to the economic and social well being of Scotland. We need more homes and the Government needs to deliver now or face the fallout."
