Speedy Tops Ethical Investment Rankings

Speedy Hire has topped a new league table ranking all of the FTSE 350 companies based on their ethical and environmental performance.

The UK’s largest tool and equipment hire business, which has over 500 depots across mainland Britain and Ireland, leapfrogged some of the best known companies in the country – such as Tesco, BT, Vodaphone and BP – to number one spot in The Good Companies Guide.

The guide scores public companies in the FTSE 350 against a range of social, environmental, and corporate governance criteria. It aims to show which businesses offer the best choice for ethical investment.

Speedy scored highly for its award-winning Safety from the Ground Up campaigns and jargon-free corporate responsibility (CR) reports. Its latest health and safety initiative is aimed at raising awareness of dust control and the measures that can be taken to limit workers exposure to dangerous particulates released into the atmosphere during the construction process.

Mark Turnbull, Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Director for Speedy Hire said: "This latest achievement is further evidence of the strength of our commitment to developing our CR performance. We firmly believe that by adopting an industry-leading position on social and environmental responsibility, Speedy is a stronger company with improved employee and customer relationships.

"Our health and safety campaigns, in particular, are driving positive change in the industry by encouraging improved working practices and raising awareness of important issues."
