Opening up a vista of stunning views was the overriding criteria for an award-winning project that features Sapa Building Systems' Dualframe casement windows.

The project – 'Uplands' near Newmarket in Suffolk – won the Home Award category in the last RIBA East Spirit of Ingenuity Architectural Awards for architects Freeland Rees Roberts. Surrounded by oak trees and apple orchards, this dramatic private house was contemporary in design but built to blend in with its surroundings using traditional materials.

The clients are timber enthusiasts and the use of oak throughout the building both internally and externally was key to the projects overall aesthetics. However, with expansive areas of glazing to maximise views and allow natural light to penetrate deep into the living areas, a high performance glazing system was also required.

Aluminium in the form of Sapa's Dualframe 75 casement windows was specified, as its combination of strength, thermal performance and aesthetics proved a perfect match for the project.
